The Department of Social Welfare and Quality of Life of the City Council of La Laguna has reviewed the work carried out by the Comprehensive Assistance Device for Women of the municipality during 2024. During this period, 1,167 users benefited from the different areas of management that make up this organization. The Comprehensive Assistance Device for Women of La Laguna assisted more than 1,100 users in 2024.
The councilor responsible for the area, María Cruz, highlighted that “this device is divided into different areas of action, such as legal, psychological, or employment, specializing each case to ensure the most effective resolution possible.” Currently, this service is provided by two psychologists, one employment counselor, one job placement officer, one lawyer, six social workers, and two administrative assistants.
“The main goal of this public tool is to offer women in La Laguna specialized advice, based on the specific demand presented, providing them with the skills and resources needed to handle any emergency situation,” added the councilor.
In this regard, María Cruz explained that “in many cases, we encounter women who, due to their economic or social situation, cannot independently and autonomously manage a legal procedure, an adverse psychological situation, or meet the requirements of the labor market. That’s why it is important to channel these cases through the specialized service of the Comprehensive Assistance Device for Women of La Laguna, where they are provided with personalized attention,” she added.
If we examine the themes of the various interventions carried out by this device in 2024, the social and legal areas stand out, with nearly 500 cases managed. The rest are distributed between the labor sector and mental health.
This public and welfare service has been designed to adapt to the evolving socio-economic situation and the needs of the population. Along with municipal housing resources, it represents an annual investment of 1.5 million euros, managed by the City Council through the Municipal Housing and Services Company (Muvisa).
Thanks to the work carried out through these housing resources, the socio-economic reintegration of 28 families was achieved during 2024.
In this regard, the City Council also reported that, during the past year, more than 160 homeless people were admitted to municipal housing resources. Considering the evolution of the past years, the volume of family units accommodated has increased by 96% in the last ten years.
