The promotion of tourism in the Canary Islands has reached a whole new level thanks to the launch of the video game “Find the Seasouls” on the Roblox platform. Presented in Madrid by the Tourism and Employment Councilor, Jéssica de León, this innovative project aims to raise awareness among the new generations about respect for the environment and biodiversity, using a mix of entertainment and education that makes it unique in its genre.
Roblox is one of the most popular gaming platforms in the world, especially loved by Generation Alpha and Generation Z. It is not just a place to play, but a digital space where users can create, explore and interact in virtual worlds built by the players themselves or by professional developers. With over 80 million active users per day, Roblox is a powerful tool for reaching young people and future travelers, offering an innovative way to tell the beauty and specificities of a tourist destination.
Thanks to its ability to engage, Roblox is no longer just a gaming platform, but a real educational and marketing tool. The Canary Islands, with this project, have managed to make the most of this opportunity, becoming the first European tourism organization to launch a video game on the platform, reaching a large global audience.
Launched at the end of December 2024, “Find the Seasouls” has quickly captured the public’s interest, exceeding one million visits in less than a month and obtaining a positive rating of 96%. This milestone positions it as a point of reference for other tourist destinations that want to get closer to younger generations through innovative technologies and digital platforms.
In the game, participants are invited to explore a digital version of the eight Canary Islands. Through their avatar, players can visit iconic places such as the Sabinar of El Hierro or the volcanic landscape of Timanfaya in Lanzarote, immersing themselves in breathtaking landscapes and collecting useful objects or virtual coins in the form of lapas. The central element of the game is the discovery of the “Seasouls”, marine creatures inspired by the unique fauna of the archipelago, such as the chucho negro, the burgado and the beaked whales.
Each Seasoul, accompanied by an educational description by oceanographer Cristina Fernández Gil, becomes an opportunity to learn more about the marine biodiversity of the Canary Islands in an interactive and fun way. Players can thus combine virtual exploration with knowledge, delving into the culture and environment of the place.
The video game has been developed with a strong educational focus, in fact it has been designed to guarantee a balanced experience, limiting the maximum playing time for the youngest, to protect their digital well-being.
To reach a global audience, “Find the Seasouls” has been automatically translated into 14 languages, including Spanish, English, German, French, Portuguese, Korean and Japanese. This makes the video game accessible to millions of users around the world, strengthening the international positioning of the Canary Islands as an innovative and sustainable destination.
