Candelaria

The Church of Our Lady of Candelaria, located in the town of Candelaria, is Tenerife's main Catholic place of worship and is dedicated to the patroness of the Canary Islands, the Virgin of Candelaria. This impressive building, overlooking the sea, is a fusion of traditional and modern architectural styles.

The basilica houses a revered statue of the Virgin, kept in a richly decorated chapel. Every year, on August 15th, thousands of pilgrims from across the island travel to Candelaria to celebrate the feast of the Virgin, in an event that blends religion, culture, and tradition.

The square in front, Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias, is adorned with statues of the Guanches, the island's first inhabitants, adding a historical touch to this sacred site.
